Major (ret) John Spencer is Chair of Urban Warfare Studies at the Modern War Institute at West Point and Co-Director of the Urban Warfare Project.  He is a leading expert on urban warfare and a founding member of the International Working Group on Subterranean Warfare.

He served over twenty-five years in the US Army as an infantry soldier, later serving in elite military units, working his way through the ranks from Private to Major.  After active duty, Spencer served as a Colonel in the California State Guard with assignment to the 40th Infantry Division, California Army National Guard as the Director of Urban Warfare Training.

He has authored books including: Understanding Urban Warfare, Connected Soldiers: Life, Leadership, and Social Connections in Modern War and The Mini-Manual for the Urban Defender.

Natasha Hausdorff is a barrister at 6 Pump Court Chambers and a frequent speaker on International Law. She has a law degree from Oxford University, qualified as a solicitor at Skadden, and subsequently gained an LLM from Tel Aviv University, focussing on public international law and the law of armed conflict.

She clerked for Miriam Naor, President of Israel’s Supreme Court, and was a Fellow at Columbia Law School’s National Security Program. Natasha is legal director of UKLFI Charitable Trust.

In the course of the current conflict, Natasha has been interviewed frequently on television to explain the application of the law of armed conflict.
