The Home Secretary is now investigating the antisemitic event at Manchester Airport when two  Israeli survivors of the Hamas massacre on 7 October 2023 were detained and aggressively questioned by the Border police officer.

Daniel Berke, a director of UK Lawyers for Israel, has been assisting the two, who were detained by UK border force for two hours and advised the Jewish Representative Council who wrote to the Home Secretary to demand action be taken Mr Cleverley responded within hours to confirm there will be a full and urgent investigation.

Daniel and Neriyah Sharabi  are heroic brothers who instead of fleeing,  stayed to save others, combat the terrorists and treat the wounded during the massacre. It is estimated that their actions saved 150 lives, as they fought terrorists in a battle lasting almost 6 hours. They suffer from PTSD and had come to the UK to speak of their experiences as survivors of terrorism and to raise awareness for a charity they founded to support other survivors.

Upon arrival, when the Border Patrol noticed they had Israeli passports they were asked why they had come to Manchester. They said they had been invited to share their experiences with the Manchester Jewish community.  They were then held for questioning – the only reason was that they were Israeli.   A video shows the Border Patrol aggressively questioning the Israelis.  The officer said “Keep quiet, look at me, are you clear with that? We are the bosses , not you.”   They were detained for 2 hours, and when released the same officer said “make sure you are not going to do what you are doing in Gaza over here.”  This is a clear example of antisemitism – treating all Jews as responsible for the actions of the Israeli government.

On Tuesday in Parliament, Sir Michael Ellis questioned Andrew Mitchell MP over the “deplorable events” at Manchester Airport that had occurred on 25 March 2024.

Andrew Mitchell called it “An absolutely outrageous, shocking and disgraceful incident which is now being investigated and the Home Secretary has personally said that he will be investigating it . I think everyone will condemn without reservation the extraordinary events that appear to have taken place at Manchester”

Daniel Berke, director of UKLFI said: “We totally condemn the fact that Israeli nationals were detained and subjected to abuse by a Border police officer. The comment upon their release showed beyond doubt that the officer was motivated by antisemitism.”
