Anti-Israel stickers have been plastered over cartons of Little Angel baby wipes in Asda, warning people not to buy them as they were made in Israel.

These stickers were seen in Asda’s Colindale branch in London.  UKLFI was alerted to the problem by several concerned members of the public, and has sent a message to Asda, alerting them to the stickers, and letting them know that placing stickers onto products is a criminal offence and breaches s38 of the Public Order Act 1986.

The legislation says that it is an offence for a person to  interfere with goods with the intention of a) causing public alarm or anxiety, or of causing economic loss to any person by reason of the goods being shunned by members of the public, or  (d) of causing economic loss to any person by reason of steps taken to avoid any such alarm or anxiety, injury or loss.

UKLFI warned Asda that the placing of stickers on the Baby Wipes could cause economic loss to Asda, and to the Israeli producer of the Baby Wipes if the goods are shunned by members of the public.  The stickers could also cause alarm or anxiety.

UKLFI has requested that Asda’s staff be extremely vigilant in ensuring that no such interference with products from Israeli manufacturers is taking place and to take immediate action against similar anti-Israel activity.

Asda has replied:  “Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. We certainly understand how serious of a concern this is as it affects many factors which we would like to try and prevent, I can confirm we have been in touch with the store and the stickers have been removed from the little angel nappies and other products that may have them on. Our colleagues on full alert to keep an eye on this and try and prevent it from happening again. We have also sent out comms to all of our stores to make the management aware so they can keep a close an eye on this.”
