Haringey Education Partnership removes politically charged teacher training slide

Haringey Education Partnership (HEP) has removed a slide referencing the Israel-Gaza conflict from a teacher training session, following a complaint from UK Lawyers for Israel (UKLFI). HEP is a non-profit company that delivers training to teachers and staff in over 150 schools in Haringey, Enfield and Waltham Forest.

The slide, intended for a session on improving parent communications, caused several teachers to leave the session feeling upset and uncomfortable. UK Lawyers for Israel (UKLFI) raised concerns that the inclusion of politically framed content in school training materials could create a hostile environment for Jewish and Israeli staff and potentially conflict with legal obligations under the Equality Act 2010, Education Act 1996 and related provisions discussed in the Department for Education’s guidance on political impartiality in schools.

In response, HEP confirmed that the slide has been removed and would not appear in future training sessions. HEP also stated that it had carried out a review of its training material approval process and reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding educators while ensuring compliance with statutory and professional duties.

A UKLFI spokesperson commented: “We welcome HEP’s swift action to remove this slide and hope it sets a clear example for ensuring training is respectful, inclusive, and legally compliant. Teachers should never feel pressured to navigate politically charged content in a professional setting.”
