UKLFI: Supporting Israel with legal skills

UKLFI successfully defends Liverpool University Student

Daniel Berke of 3D Solicitors successfully defended Max Little, a politics student studying at the University of Liverpool against criminal allegations of a religiously aggravated public order offence. This followed an argument he had with the leader of Amnesty International Society in which she repeatedly called him a racist and declined to condemn the actions of Hamas or denounce terrorism.

Max’s efforts in challenging antisemitic activity on Liverpool University’s campus have been unwavering. UKLFI Charitable Trust provided financial support for Max’s defence.

Thanking UKLFI Charitable Trust, Max wrote “Anti-Israel activities at the University of Liverpool have made its campus a place where Jewish students, allies of Jewish students and supporters of Israel have felt unsafe. I am proud to have repeatedly challenged those pursuing this hateful agenda. I feel it is critical that Jewish students see that there are non-Jewish allies like me who have the courage to speak out.

Allegations were made against me and I faced a criminal trial. UKLFI Charitable Trust supported me throughout – from the beginning, their message was ‘you have stood up for Jewish people and now we will stand up for you’. As a result of the crucial support they provided, I can continue to fight against the blatant antisemitic rhetoric spread across my campus.”

Following the ‘not guilty’ verdict, Daniel said “there has become a worrying pattern whereby antisemitic activists make reports to the police when their conduct is challenged, and too often the police and CPS are willing to take action. In this case, Max was found not to have commited the offence alleged and I am very pleased we were able to assist a bright student who has faced personal threats to his safety for challenging antisemitism”.
