Sabra® Hummus is being targeted in the UK by BDS campaigners, who are attaching fake anti-Israel shelf labels in supermarkets.

The producer of these labels, Darren Cullen, has sent an email to his followers falsely accusing Sabra® Hummus of providing financial support for the Israeli Defence Forces and supporting Israeli “apartheid” and “genocide”.  He provides fake shelf labels to download and print  that state: “Apartheid Hummus.  Buying this product helps support genocide. Since £19.48  Search BDS for more info.”

UKLFI has reported Darren Cullen to the police for fraud and for interference with goods with the intention of causing economic loss contrary to s38 of the Public Order Act 1986.

The first labels Mr Cullen printed were designed for Sainsburys shelves, and he has now also produced Tesco shelf labels.  These were spotted in Tesco Hammersmith on 20 December 2023. He has stated on his website that he intends to produce labels for various supermarkets, and then for different products listed on the BDS website.

UKLFI has written to the four major supermarkets that sell Sabra Hummus, to warn them to be alert for these labels, and to remove them quickly.

Mr Cullen claims that Sabra® hummus is a joint venture of PepsiCo and the Strauss Group. However, that is a joint venture in the United States. The Sabra® hummus sold in the UK is made by the Israeli kibbutz, Lohamei Hagheta’ot, founded by survivors of the Warsaw ghetto uprising, and distributed by Osem, which is now owned by Nestlé.

The hummus is available in several major supermarkets, including Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons and Waitrose.
